Jack Kavanagh pulled two performances directly from his top drawer this weekend, to secure victory in Crossmolina on Friday night, and Geesala on Saturday. Jack dominated both contests from the ouset and secured two confidence boosters ahead of February’s boys championships.
Also in action on both nights was Ciara Sheedy. On friday night Ciara came out the wrong side of a close contest with National Champion Saidbh Green from Ballinacarrow despite both girls going toe to toe for the duration. Ciara did however bounce back on Saturday, with a hard fought win in Geesala.
On Friday night veteran Pierce Rowley dropped a close contest to Sean Reilly of Ardagh despite a cultured performance, with Rowley landing the clean scores but Reilly advancing more often.
10 year old Dylan Toner added a few more to his already growing admirers. The ever improving Dylan put in another educated performance in Charlestown today.
Making his debut on the same bill was newcomer Shane McHugh. Shane has made great gains since joining the club this year and getting the first one out of the way is always difficult, but Shane was equal to it and was only beaten narrowly.
Finally, Aoife Bredigan is steadily building a reputation for herself. Only 10 years of age and cultured beyond her years, Aoife showed the large crowd in attendance in Geesala on Saturday night, how the “art” of boxing is meant to be performed! With a season’s best Aoife treated everyone to an “exhibition” of boxing.
Great performances all round this weekend, credit to all our boxers. Augers well for the week to come!
