At the tender age of 13 and 15 years, what a dream it would be to meet your hero, a worldwide star and one of the most recognised faces in your chosen sport…..tomorrow evening Ciara Sheedy and Jack Kavanagh will not only fufil that dream, but will perform alongside their hero.

Born June 2nd 1986, Katie Taylor, the current Irish, European, World and Olympic boxing Champion, Irish international footballer, and the person solely credited with raising the profile of women’s boxing worldwide, will perform in front of a capacity crowd in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar, and Ciara Sheedy and Jack kavanagh will not only be there to greet her, but will box alongside her, on the “Road to Rio” bill.

Regarded as the outstanding Irish athlete of her generation, it is a privilage and an honour for the Swinford Boxing club to have two great boxers supporting Katie. Not only this, but on what will be a special occasion in Mayo sport, Jack and Ciara will also perform alongside a Mayo boxing great, Ray Moylette of St. Annes BC Westport. European Champion Ray, like Katie, has been a role model for Mayo boxers for many years, and it is an added bonus that he has agreed to box on the bill.

We wish Ciara and Jack the best of sport for Sunday, and express how proud a moment it is for the club, to follow up Aoife Hennigan’s appearance in the European Championships, with Ciara and Jack’s appearance alongside the great Katie Taylor. We also wish Katie the very best in her preparations for Rio, and as always we remain 100% behind her! Bring on the action….
